Oh dear it has been a while hasn't it... wedding planning (still loads to do), emergency surgery (gallbladder removal, I feel much better thanks) and roof collapsing (500 pounds of oak tree branch split a few rafters) have been occupying my time as of late.
Okay, well, the reason I blog - small project recently completed. I made some more soft blocks for Bev's son Danny. The small one just had a block "D" embroidered on it, from the sample fonts that come with the Pfaff software, the medium size block had a D with a toy carousel horse next to it that (I believe) I downloaded from AnnTheGran.com and the big block says "New Kid on the Block" (since he has an older brother named Corey) with small embroidered blocks underneath it. I got it from sewbaby.com. It's a fractal image. Look closely. :-) The fabrics were quilter's cotton, nice stuff. I used primary red, blue and yellow since Danny is a boy. Once again I note how much sewing is skewed towards women. (Not that that's a bad thing!)
The blocks were easier second time around, it occurred to me to pin a bunch of seams at once and then sew them all at once, then depin (unpin?) and do more. That worked a lot faster than one at a time. Also I mastered the bloody invisible thread that plagued my efforts last time.
The first Maggie Simpson snowsuit has been cut from the baby green fleece from Malden Mills. The first attempt at installing the central zipper was a total no-go because I decided for some reason to go against all my instincts and actually follow the directions, which were totally non-sensical. Damn McCalls patterns! Anyway, it's for Marc and Emma's baby girl, who is named Jessica. I hope she will still fit into it by the time I am done with the damn thing. :-)
Speaking of wedding stuff, I did finally find my dress - it's Casablanca Bridal but it's from their Spring 2002 collection so they have taken it off their webpage. You can see it here on BrideSave.com
