I'm just no good at this

no good at this remembering to blog thing, that is.

The year has absolutely flown by. I really cannot believe that it is freakin' December, fer cryin' out loud. It was just August, like two weeks ago.

I have managed to sew a few things since the last time I blogged. June, was it? A few more fleecey baby things (can whip them out in about an hour or so now) a few more baby blocks - Jessica, our new nephew John. A fabric bowl for my home - it's ugly so it's going into the guest room, never to be seen again. I did that fabric covered box (have I mentioned that before?) but the instructions were so very twisted that I'm not making anymore. I bought those fabric bowls and boxes books, that's the way to go. For Xmas, our niece Rebecca is getting a fleece scarf with Sea Life - starfish, seahorses, turtles. Our nephew Luke, who's three, is getting rocket ships hat, gloves and scarf, and baby John gets soft blocks. Good thing I can keep repeating these gifts ad infinitum since the people who receive them don't know each other. :-)

The really impressive part is that it's a few days before we leave for the UK, and I'm like, set. Xmas shopping done, I've even caught up on my sewing projects! The seat cushion is mostly done (need to sew on buttons - the covered buttons wound up in the garbage, utterly useless things that they were) and I've tossed that outfit that I was making TWO years ago for my office Xmas party. What the hell was I thinkin - synthetic satic skirt with full lining and tulle? I'd be roasting in DFW in that thing. Next time - dupioni silk. And I'll pick a flattering pattern this time, too... BUT I'm proud of myself for recognizing that this was a lost cause and tossing it. First time I've ever done that.

What next? well, curtains loom large - 3 1/2 years in the house and I have NO windowdressing apart from the wood blinds that came with the house. I'm getting very intrigued by quilting. Have purchased several quilting books and will read accordingly while on holiday in Blighty. This is the year we are with DH's family - last year was mine, and next year it'll just be the two of us at home - I think we should do that every year, personally, but then again, I am Scrooge or so my mother keeps telling me...
