back from the dead

I have sewn since 2005 (last post in this blog) but haven't bothered to blog about it. Since then I've had a kid (best thing I've ever done) so you can imagine the sewing has been put on the back burner. Now that I'm unemployed (uh, yeah. Uh huh.) I am starting up again.

I'm putting together a T-shirt quilt from my Komen Race for the Cure and Avon/Komen 3 Day events. I don't want to wear the shirts anymore, I'm tired of them cluttering up my closet but I don't want to throw them away, so a T-shirt quilt it is. I've dug out a pattern that sashes them together with stars and will do a 4 x5 block pattern. I've cut the shirts out and come up with a layout that I like:

I laid them out on a white sheet laid across James' pool table and went upstairs to take the pic. This was Layout Attempt #3. I was trying to scatter the Komen shirts, the dark blue shirts and the different events.

The pattern is from Country Quilter and I'm doing the Star Set version. Next step is to buy Pellon ShirTailor to stabilize the T-shirts before cutting them into the blocks and deciding on colors. I'm thinking light pink sashing, medium pink stars, dark pink borders and maybe a red contrast binding, just for fun. I'm not a fan of pink, but there's so damn much of it with any breast cancer charity that I'm just going to do what my buddy Chris says and just embrace it.
